If you are on 10.5 or greater, then, if you have iChat (dot mac or AIM) then we're already ready, there is nothing more to do than login to iChat and start chatting with me. If you do NOT have iChat, then skip down to the iChat section (you can use my iChat server).

If you are on 10.4, then in order for me to be able to look in on your computer, you'll need to login to my VPN, and you'll also need to enable "Apple Remote Desktop". If you want to iChat we'll need to cover that too.

Chrome Remote Desktop

Wow!

ARD (Apple Remote Desktop) for 10.4

Assumes you are either directly connected to the internet (not behind a router) or you are connected via VPN (see above)

  1. Apple Menu -> System Preferences
  2. click "Sharing"
  3. Select "Apple Remote Desktop" so the words are hilited
  4. Check the box next to the words too (this is different from selecting the words).
  5. A dialog panel may automatically "woosh" down when you check the box, if not, click the "Access Privileges…" button
  6. check the box next to "Guests may request permission to control the screen"
  7. click okay
  8. If I tell you your client software is out of date, you'll have to update it by installing Apple's Remote Desktop client.

VPN (Virtual Private Network)

If you have Mac OS 10.4
If you have Mac OS 10.5

iChat

If you do not have a .Mac or AIM account, then you can use my iChat server.
